DirecTV Now, the venerable streaming service from AT&T, has often been looked at as a capable but flawed streaming service. DirecTV Now is trying to change all that with a major update launching today.
Cutting the cord can be a challenge, but today, DirecTV made things a little easier with a major update that looks to bring some long-awaited features to the oft panned service. DirecTV Now, for those uninitiated, is a service that brings local and major cable channels together for one low price. The service is aimed squarely at those looking to cut those cable bills down to a reasonable amount. But thanks to this update, things just got a whole lot better.
The update, launched for iOS, Apple TV, and web browsers, gives consumers access to a variety of new features, but the most notable new feature is the cloud DVR. Consumers can now record up to 20 hours of video at no additional charge with the option to upgrade the storage to 100 hours for just $10 a month. Subscribers can keep their recordings for 30 days but the $10 buys you an additional 60 days of storage for a total of 90 days.
In addition to new DVR functionality, the interface has been greatly improved. Frequently watched channels are now front and center and underneath that, you can see what is trending. In addition, families will love the new third stream feature that was also added today. For about $5 a month, customers can now have three simultaneous streams going at the same time. It’s the perfect combination for anyone looking for a true cable replacement.
Unfortunately, the update isn’t for everyone. Android, Roku, and Amazon devices have yet to be updated and most likely won’t be updated for a couple of weeks. With that being said, patience is a virtue and those looking forward to the new features won’t be disappointed. You can look for a full-review of DirecTV Now coming soon as we create a compendium of all the different services on the market. Stay tuned.
