YouTube only announced their new Music and Premium Music plans a few days ago. Now the product is rolling out today.
YouTube, the company famous for video streaming is rolling out its new Music service today. Some users are reporting that they’ve received access to the service, which is basically a music only service similar to what one would get with either Google Play Music, Apple Music, or Spotify. The service is basically free in an ad supported model. If ads don’t cut it for you, a small $9.99 fee will eliminate them. For only $2 more, you can add YouTube original content such as what you can currently get with Red.
The service is designed for music lovers, offering them unique ways to get their music. Mixtape, for example, is a feature that builds a collection from artists and songs you already love. The service will also make recommendations based on the time of day, mood, or event. Because of the breadth of music on the service, it’s simply not just about playing the studio recording. Audiophiles will enjoy remixes and mashups as well. Overall, Music and Music Premium is all about getting the music you want with discovery sprinkled in.
Google Play Music subscribers will get the service at no additional charge. And if you’re a YouTube Red customer, you’ll get migrated to the service eventually. However, if you want the best deal, you may want to pull the trigger and get Red as soon as you can. The service is still priced at $9.99 including original Red content and you’ll be grandfathered in. While I have yet to use the new music service, I am a Red customer and I’m looking forward to seeing what these changes bring.
